Latino Task Force (LTF) began with a small group of dedicated Hispanic leaders who were passionate about making a difference for the burgeoning Latino community in the East Tennessee area. Formed in 2000, LTF was driven by a vision to assist and effect positive change within our growing Hispanic community here in Knoxville. Over the years, and continuing to this day, LTF has remained committed to bringing together Spanish-speaking leaders who offer invaluable services to the community. These leaders regularly convene to discuss pressing issues facing the community and to collaborate on strategies for meaningful change and improvement. Through their tireless efforts, LTF has become a vital force for progress and support within the Latino community.
The Latino Task Force (LTF) has made significant strides in assisting not only the community but also the businesses and government services that support it. Our efforts include working closely with the Knoxville Police Department to enhance their understanding of Hispanic cultures and address community concerns. We've collaborated with the Health Department to improve language assistance under Title VI, ensuring better access to health services. Additionally, we have engaged with the Department of Transportation to advocate for the issuance of IDs and driver's licenses for all community members. Our meetings with banking institutions have led to changes that allow undocumented citizens to open bank accounts, fostering financial inclusion. Furthermore, LTF proudly founded the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Centro Hispano, both of which are pivotal organizations serving the Hispanic community in Knoxville. Through these initiatives and more, LTF continues to be a driving force for positive change and support in our community.
